CHAIRMAN’S OPENING REMARK
The Chairman acknowledged the presence of parents and teachers in attendance. He urged everyone to contribute meaningfully and constructively so that the meeting would go smoothly.
READING AND ADOPTION OF MINUTES
The principal apologized for the inability of the Secretary to read the last minutes due to some mix up during the handover of documents from the previous Secretary to the new one.
INTRODUCTION OF NEW PARENTS
New parents were introduced to the congress and received warmly. The Chairman pointed out that Hallmark PTA is a place where all can thrive and the students nurtured consistently to attain greater heights. He mentioned that the choice parents made to bring their kids to Hallmark Academy is a great one and all will live to reap the dividend.
NEW MATTERS
GIRLS’ HOSTEL: The Principal informed the congress that the Girls’ Hostel (ZOE HALL OF RESIDENCE) has been tiled and the girls have moved in on resumption this term. He added that certain things are yet to be put in place. He therefore craved the indulgence of the congress to support the school accordingly.
SSCE: The principal stated that certain parents encourage their wards to attempt the West African Senior School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE) while in S.S.S. 2. The school frowns seriously at this as it exposes the child to examination malpractice and manipulation. He further stated that any student found to have registered for such will not be allowed to continue in the school as this violates the principle guiding the conduct and registration for Senior School Certificate Examination. He further advised that parents should not be in a hurry to register their children while in S.S.2 because a lot of academic work and mental development are needed to enable each child to cope and excel in the university or other tertiary institutions of learning.
ACADEMIC AND SPORTING COMPETITIONS: The Principal maintained that all eligible students are selected, mentored and eventually screened for every competition based on performance, speed, accuracy and other criteria set by the organizers of such competition. The entire process is transparent, devoid of sentiments and any other bias. He further implored parents to encourage and not make insinuations if their wards did not qualify at any stage of the selection process.
SIGNING IN/ SIGNING OUT OF BOARDING STUDENTS: There are cards issued to parents/ guardians for security purposes to be used during checking in/signing out of boarding students. The cards must be used for that purpose only. The principal informed parents not to misplace the cards as such attracts an extra charge of Five Hundred Naira (N500) for a new one to be issued. The first card issued by the school if entirely free. However, if it is misplaced and eventually found, it should be returned to the school but no refund will be made. He further stated that any person sent by a parent to help sign out the child must be in possession of the card and a voice authorization required before the child is released.
BUS SERVICE: School bus service is now available for day students and there are designated bus stops for pick up and drop off. Interested parents should speak with the Vice Principal (Administration), Mr. Joseph Oshunkunle for further details.
SALES OF ADMISSION FORM: The Principal announced that the school admission form for 2019/ 2020 school year is available for Two Thousand Naira (N2000) only. Interested parents should also see the Vice-Principal (Academics), Mrs. Juliana Ehada for details. The entrance examination date is June 22nd, 2019.
A.O.B.
A parent complained that the son participated in the Abuja Baseball Junior Championship Competition and was fielded for Kogi State during the games. To this, the Games Master, Mr. Dori Ezekiel who accompanied the players to the tournament in Abuja explained that the son participated in the tournament as the school scorer (someone who takes down the details of runs and batting order). Hence, he became eligible to play in the United States Ambassador’s Exhibition Game due to his outstanding ability to record properly and also not to have been featured in any previous game as an active player.
Same parent further drew the attention of the school management to the skirts of female students and requested that the length goes beyond the knees and that scarfs or caps be made available. The principal responded that the school has a sewing standard and that all skirts are sewn at knee length and an additional 2-3 inches of material is tucked in at the hem of each skirt to enable parents to unfold as the girl child grows taller. He also pointed out that the school does not use any headgear - caps, berets, hijab, scarfs or bandana. Each female student has a choice of either making the assigned hairstyle of the week or simply wear a low cut. This is indicated in the school prospectus and policy issued to parents before resumption.
Another parent appreciated the school management and P.T.A. for the immense and unwavering efforts put in the running of the school. He further stated that he is impressed with the level of academic performance of his children and therefore pledged that his kids will remain in the school till graduation.
The principal informed the congress that several students who wrote UTME last year got admission into various universities, especially Federal University, Lafia and therefore urged parents to be careful in the choice of institutions to be selected for final year students to ensure speedy admission process.
On S.S.C.E, he reported that the Mathematics, English Language, Literature and other science teachers have been taking S.S.S. 3 students extra lessons in preparation for the forthcoming examinations. He enjoined parents to pray along for the success of the kids.
In the same vein, a parent appreciated the school and commended the teachers in particular for a job well done. He opined that each student must be encouraged and nurtured to do better in Mathematics as the subject is not out of this world.
Consequently, the Principal urged parents to caution their wards and clearly mark every item – books, uniforms, e.t.c. He also frowned at parents who attempt home drills (assignments) for their wards instead of guiding them.
CLOSING REMARK: The Chairman thanked everyone for the meaningful contribution and continued support towards the growth of the school and success of every student at Hallmark Academy. He prayed to God for a safe trip back for every member.

Mr. Louis Ogbose moved a motion for the adjournment of the meeting and Mr. Obiri Uji seconded it.
